Story of my mentor

Why do we need a mentor?
Well, the answer is simple. We need a mentor in our life to develop ourselves in every aspect of life. Whether it is our personal development or professional development we need a potential mentor.

A potential mentor means a person who has enough experience to guide you. Not only this he/she must have some other qualities of companionship in his/her personality. A mentor must be a good listener and must have the ability to show empathy towards every query or problem you have. There is a very thin line between sympathy and empathy. Empathy goes beyond sympathy and it means to put yourself in someone’s else shoes and experience his problems.

Don’t get confused with the title of this story that you are reading. As there is more than one mentor in my life.

My first mentor is my lovely mother. She always supports me and guides me in my decisions. Not only this but she motivates me whenever I am feeling down. I remember the day when my intermediate result was declared and it was not up to the par. She then decided to travel with me to Lahore to seek future opportunities. In Lahore, we realized that I can not pursue what I wanted. So with her guidance, I decided to improve one of my low scored subjects. And I was able to improve myself.

In my professional life which is started a few months ago, my mentor is one of my colleagues. He is the one who provided me with the opportunity for my first job. He always guides me in order to develop myself professionally. Inside the office or outside the office, he is the one who plays the role of a potential mentor.

It’s been almost three months since I have joined Amal Academy. It is a career prep fellowship. The purpose of this fellowship is to develop oneself professionally in a manner that one becomes life long learner. The requirement of this fellowship is to take some online courses. But online courses alone can’t fulfil the purpose of this fellowship. There must be a person available for you to motivate and guide you. So, for this purpose, you have to meet some dedicated and knowledgeable persons two days per week. In my case this person in Ma’am Zaryab. She is my mentor. She provides me with her valuable time. She knows how to give feedback to her students. She will be reading my blog as this is the part of my project work. So, utilizing this blog I want to say “Thank you Ma’am Zaryab!”.

In the end, I want to share that it takes a lot of courage to ask for help, guidance and feedback. And after developing this courage you must possess the quality of humility in order to absorb the feedback.
