Let me get this straight — I am actually an introverted digital nomad who loves staying at home. Still, not having a choice has left me very anxious and overwhelmed. I had to find ways to keep my sanity, in addition to my spiritual practices. Here is what I came up with.
During the first lockdown, I ordered a ukulele. Yes, I know it wasn’t “essential,” but honestly, it was for my mental health. I’ve always wanted to learn the ukulele, and I figured it would come in handy as it’s a small instrument you can take anywhere.
I am an avid learner, whether in lockdown or not. However, keeping busy and discovering new things during the pandemic was really helpful. I wasn’t constantly worried about it and could spend time doing something interesting and useful.
Our lives changed so rapidly, and we were not prepared for these crazy times, so it’s ok to feel frustrated. I honestly hate it when people say things like “suck it up, it will pass.” Yeah, it will pass, but your feelings are valid, and you have the right to express them. Keeping them pent-up in your body and mind won’t help your stress levels, health, and overall well-being. Ultimately, it can lead to illness, greater frustration, and aggravated behavior.
The best stress relief I have ever tried was boxing. Honestly, hitting something really helps because all of that energy gets out of your body, and you feel better almost immediately.
