Sustainability and ethical production in the garment sector includes all the persons, all kinds of materials and the process of manufacturing from producer to consumer. Everyone must be aiming to achieve a product that leaves very less negative footprints and is obtained from natural practices.

The clothing brand must be following good work ethics, social justice, animal welfare and should be safe for our blue planet- Earth.We must also implement the concept of truly sustainable fashion because without reinforcing it we couldn’t reap any benefits out of it. Let’s say, a brand is ethically a super star just because they’re good in work ethics, ensuring safe and sound working conditions, giving them a decent wage and pay in return for their hard work and the environment is friendly for the labor but what if the production is done by chemical and synthetic materials. Therefore, engaging in only one action and ignoring the other isn’t sufficient.

So, to guarantee environmental and social sustainability, the brands must adhere to all the possible guidelines and understand sustainability holistically.

Let’s see why it is important to give stress on sustainable and ethical production.

A good brand is responsible enough in a way that they always try not to put any negative impact on the environment and the beings living on it. We must use less chemicals and other non-recyclable materials that may cause diseases and many harmful effects on the environment.

These chemicals also pose real danger to our health as well, as our skin absorbs these harmful chemicals when we are exposed to sunlight or even if we sweat, so be careful while using anything for yourself. Also avoid unethical methods of production, instead prefer using dyes and materials that are sustainable and eco-friendly too.

This indicates the activities conducted for the welfare of the people working in the garment industry. We must always prefer and follow sustainable and ethical practices that are transparent about their details on factory, working conditions and manufacturing process. Many trade and labor unions protect the rights of the labor and discourage child labor too. They give equal gender rights in the workplace and good salaries too.

They also take care that workers and employees are also paid fairly for their work and they work in safe working conditions. Moreover, verbal and physical abuse are still common practice in many workplaces. We must also be very much concerned about our laborers and employee rights, who are working for us and try to give them all possible benefits and bonuses too.

All the industries, even fashion and garment ones, emit a hefty amount of greenhouse gasses which are actively contributing to global warming. Many of our clothes are made from petroleum based and fossil fuels, including polyester, acrylic and nylon.

These materials require a lot more energy to be produced than nature based fibers. Whereas, we must prefer using natural and recycled fabrics which don’t require any chemical treatments, use small amounts of water, less energy and no fertilizer or pesticides involved in the raw material processing. These environmentally sound fabrics go easy on the planet and are amazing sustainable alternatives.

Use shopping bags which are made from paper obtained from wood or cloth packing, which is recyclable and decomposes more quickly in soil than any other product. These bags are not even harmful for animals either.

Many industries still kill animals for their personal interest and don’t mind this cruelty at all. They don’t do it for any kind of necessity but rather use it for profit making and other benefits.

They use cow hides, snake skins and leather to make some exclusive clothing lines to excel in their brand and this is a good way of making money too. This practice is actually putting many animals and their rare species in danger which is not at all good for our environment.

Many people are against this practice nowadays and don’t prefer those brands that use animals for their interests. They find this practice inhuman and usually avoid such brands and goods that are doing such practices.

A sustainable and ethical industry doesn’t use any animal products or by-products for their production purposes. There are many alternatives of different products and their by-products as well, so try every possible way to avoid such practices. We must also educate consumers about commercial animal farming and their exploitation for fashion and in clothing lines.

Buying any product, say it be wearing essentials like high waist women jeans or accessories like sunglasses for women, we must be conscious about how it’s made and produced. Your oversized sunglasses for women should go further than just buying a frame that looks great on your face. Your right decision will make an impact, either by making an environmental impact , positive social changes, or both.
