Which Madrinas Coffee has the best value?

Madrinas Coffee Cafe Vanilla Linus Tech Tips Edition

I am not much of an avid Coffee Drinker. They usually aren’t successful in waking me up in the morning, and most of them simply don’t taste good, in my opinion. But when I do drink coffee, my go-to option is Madrinas Coffee, specifically their Cafe Mocha flavor, although I do like the Cafe Vanilla as well.

As I was browsing their website, looking for something to buy, a thought struck my head… what is the best value option? What should I actually be buying?

On the website, they have the following options for coffee:

Here is what I found,

Per serving, we achieve the following ranking:

With this ranking, it becomes clear that the Fuel Cup 24-Packs are the best value, with the Trial Powder at last place. However, this comes at a problem: The 16oz cans actually have serving sizes of 8oz. That means it’s 2 servings per can. Do you think a normal person is just gonna drink half a can in the morning, and leave the other one in the fridge for the next day? Seems unlikely. So, here is the ranking with the 16oz cans being counted per can, rather than per serving:

When taking into account how these products are most likely to be used, it becomes clear that the cans have the worst value out of all of them (Not counting the Powder Trial).

So now, what about price per oz? Surely that’s a much better way of calculating the value of these products, right? While I would be inclined to agree, I was looking to see what would last me the longest between purchases, and that means accounting for how these would be used.

But I ran these calculations regardless, but there are a few assumptions that need to be made:

Given these rules, here are my rankings:

As you can see, the 24-Pack Fuel Cup continues to beat the competition, and the Powder Trial continues to do the worst.

So, does that mean I should start buying the Fuel Cups in order to save my money? That’s probably the case, but there is an additional issue to this idea.

My flavor of choice is Cafe Mocha, as stated above. When looking at the Fuel Cups, this isn’t an option. Rather, the two available options are Shroud’s Insane Roast and Two Dragons. I might try these, but for the time being, when selecting which product I’m spending my money on, these options have to be eliminated.

This means that the best bang for my buck is going to be either the 16oz 12-Pack Cans or the powder. So, which do I go for?

Well, consider how these will likely be used. With the cans, I will be drinking up the entire can at once on a daily basis. With the powder, I will be mixing one serving daily. This means I need to look at the serving ranking with cans. With this, Powder ends up on top.

That said, there’s something to be said about the convenience factor of the cans. With powder, I either have to mix a cup of coffee at night for the following morning, or I have to mix the cup of coffee as I wake up, neither of which is necessarily ideal. With the cans, they’re already available from the get go. The difference in price between one 16oz can from a 24-pack and one powdered drink is only $0.15. While it’s true that this adds up over time, at the end of the day, it may be a small price to pay for the convenience factor.

So, which should you choose? Well, if value is most important, definitely pick up one of the Fuel Cups. If you’re looking specifically for Cafe Mocha or Cafe Vanilla, but still want the best value, go for the Powder. If you’re looking for any other flavor (Black, Cafe Caramel, or 2X Vanilla Cappuccino), or you’re simply looking for convenience, the 16oz cans are still a good option.
