SecArmy CTF 2.0 Writeup

I am here to share my writeup for SecArmy CTF 2.0

As they have already given the IP address and port number, in fact, they have given the direct command with parameters as well which we need to perform to get the flag, we just need to type “nc 192.168.43.1 2032” without quotes in any Linux Terminal.

This challenge is giving a clue that they started their SecArmy family with Instagram and asking you to check their first Instagram post for the flag.

For this challenge, they have two text files with numbers in it

As the challenge says 16 + 8 were 16 hints for Hexadecimal and 8 hints for the octal number system.

file1.txt

73 65 63 61 72 6d 79 7b

Looking at the file1.txt, it seems like they are hexadecimal numbers.

So let's convert this hexadecimal numbers to text: we get secarmy{

file2.txt

116 165 155 63 145 162 137 163 171 163 67 63 155 175

Looking at the second text file seems to have octal numbers as the highest digit in the numbers is 7.

So let's convert this octal numbers into text

since the challenge is hinting: 16+8 says concatenate those two outputs to get the flag.
