Consider that Google recently start providing services without cloud computing, there is an private LAN of google.

With private networks, utilities maintain control over traffic and always ensure enough capacity for smart grid communications. Plus, utilities can control access to the network so there’s an inherent level of security within the grid. And since the private network is privately owned and operated, there aren’t any monthly fees. Plus, with network availability, utilities are able to build extensive redundancy, backup power and additional sites, repair the system when needed and enjoy better remote coverage with longer-range access.

so by using only LAN, google can’t give the better services to user and They can’t provide security, multitenancy, optimization, scalability, user management, user isolation etc. they provide solution for this, by using private cloud combined with hybrid cloud.

The private cloud is defined as computing services offered either over the Internet or a private internal network and only to select users instead of the general public. Also called an internal or corporate cloud, private cloud computing gives businesses many of the benefits of a public cloud — including self-service, scalability and elasticity — with the additional control and customization available from dedicated resources over a computing infrastructure hosted on-premises. In addition, private clouds deliver a higher level of security and privacy through both company firewalls and internal hosting to ensure operations and sensitive data are not accessible to third-party providers. One drawback is that the company’s IT department is held responsible for the cost and accountability of managing the private cloud. So private clouds require the same staffing, management and maintenance expenses as traditional datacenter ownership.

Two models for cloud services can be delivered in a private cloud. The first is infrastructure as a service (IaaS) which allows a company to use infrastructure resources such as compute, network and storage as a service. The second is platform as a service (PaaS) which lets a company deliver everything from simple cloud-based applications to sophisticated-enabled enterprise applications.

In terms of Price, a Private cloud model is more expensive. This is particularly because of the hardware expenses such as servers, network infrastructures, data centers and software licenses. Besides that you need to hire a separate on-site staff to look after and maintain the cloud. That is the main reason why Private cloud is most often preferred by large companies.

2. Maintenance

Setup and maintenance cost is generally higher in Private cloud services. A Private cloud not only needs an investment in hardware, it requires continuous maintenance which can be time consuming. Therefore a separate IT administration must be present for this purpose. The only way to lower this maintenance cost is through the use of virtual environment.

3. Deployment

Deployment of a Private cloud is considered to be very difficult since it requires many resources and takes much time. Especially it is harder to deploy on a global scale. Apart from that deployment needs to be maintained by qualified IT personals.

4. Scalability

Unlike the Public cloud, the Private cloud is not much scalable. Whenever there is a demand for a particular service, the IT department will be falling short.

5. Options

There are too many options available when a company tries to build a Private cloud. Some companies may be overwhelmed by the fact that there are arrays of different types and options for a particular software. They just need one or two out of them.

6. Remote Access

Increased security in Private cloud means that that remote access is limited. This is especially true in the case of mobile users.

Using a combination of public clouds, on-premises computing, and private clouds in your data center means that you have a hybrid cloud infrastructure. A hybrid cloud strategy provides businesses with greater flexibility by moving workloads between cloud solutions as needs and costs fluctuate.

Hybrid cloud services are powerful because they give businesses greater control over their private data. An organization can store sensitive data on a private cloud or local data center and simultaneously leverage the robust computational resources of a managed public cloud. A hybrid cloud relies on a single plane of management, unlike a multi-cloud strategy wherein admins must manage each cloud environment separately.

The primary benefit of a hybrid cloud is agility. The need to adapt and change direction quickly is a core principle of a digital business. Your enterprise might want (or need) to combine public clouds, private clouds, and on-premises resources to gain the agility it needs for a competitive advantage.
