Journaling

Journaling can be somewhat similar to Marmite. We either love it or we hate it. I know many people who don’t journal and also many people who love to write in their journal daily.

Taking part in Cat Meffan’s Soul Sanctuary Immersion has made me take my journaling onto a whole new level. Before I would always just write how my day had been and that would be that, but there is so much more to journaling.

If you are completely new to journaling then writing how your day has gone is a good place to start. Simply writing whether it’s been a good day or a bad day, maybe even writing why it was a good or bad day will help. Writing simple things will start to take a load of your mind and make your day seem easier.

As Cat thought us in her Soul Sanctuary Immersion a way of taking your journalling to the next level is to start by writing things that you are grateful for that day. These can be small things like your grateful for, for example you might say “I am grateful for my family” or “I am grateful for seeing the autumn leaves”. Writing a gratitude list and make your day just that little bit brighter.

There has been extensive research on the benefits of journaling and how it can benefit our general health and our mental health. One article says that some of the benefits include “improved immune function and reduces stress”. Even if it’s only a couple of sentences that you write this will still have a positive impact on your mental health and allow you to start to gain a more positive mindset on life.

I encourage anyone who doesn’t journal or doesn’t do it that often to start doing it daily. The more you journal the greater the benefit it will be for you in the long run. Find a time of the day where you can journal along side something you already do each day. This could be with your morning coffee or just after your daily meditation. Journaling allows you to release all the thoughts of your day and clear your mind so that you can be positive and focus more on the happier things in your life.
