A NEW PATH.

Transitioning to a new career path can be both daunting and exciting, and for many people, it involves a lot of trial and error. However, with dedication and hard work, it is possible to find your true calling and excel in your chosen field. This is a glimpse of my journey from A student of History and international studies to the tech sphere of project and product management.I had interest in the research and international field, trust me. I have lots of knowledge on International relations and politics. I’ve always wanted to work with the UN and I think I did well in pursuing it: I’ve worked with UNFPA, Currently a member of YALI and AUYA but I felt it was unrealistic?

Well, Like many people, I began the journey with no specific idea in mind except from the fact that I would not CODE😂. I had an interest in technical writing. However, as I. navigated through this world, i stumbled upon project management and became intrigued by the field. I do well with organizing and people management so figured it would be a great field to start in. I decided to register for a scholarship in product management hosted by Entry level in May 2022, and this turned out to be a game-changer.The scholarship opened my eyes to the world of IT management, and management itself and i became heavily invested in learning more about the field. Despite juggling school work, i registered for more online courses in Project and product management on platforms like Coursera, YouTube, Sidehustle and Alison, determined to deepen my knowledge and skills.

I faced lots of challenges… tons.. I had school to deal with , I had Excel lessons to deal with, I had my Spanish lessons also😂😂 on Duolingo( Still a beginner though but estoy intentando). The outline on Entry level helped a little, cause you had a week to complete a module so I left it for weekends and Wednesdays. With exams for my 3rd level approaching I had to put it all to a stop cause you know; let’s get that degree…..

Well, I had my final exams In February this year and I have since then made the decision to focus squarely on project and product management, with a little bit of UX research😂. I decided to put all what I’ve been learning into practice, and soon enough I found the opportunity to work on a real life project with Technoob to create a product for newbies In tech , surprisingly under a product manager that got the same scholarship with entry-level. It’s pretty sad, I questioned the fact that I started the same time with this person and I haven’t really explored the field but I can’t blame myself cause I had other important things to deal with sooo I shoved that thought away.

Drawing on everything I had learned, I am able to make valuable contributions to the project, while gaining real-life experience in project and product management.

The experience has been a smooth ride so far, we are done with documentation….unto the design phase now and I am grateful for the opportunity to channel all that I have learned into a real-life project. I believe that this experience will serve as a solid foundation for future projects and would enable me tackle any challenges that comes my way.

For anyone considering a career transition, this story is an excellent reminder of the importance of being open to new opportunities, patience, going with your pace and continuously learning and growing. With dedication and hard work, it is possible to find your true calling and excel in your chosen field, even if it means taking a different path than you originally intended.
